Assistants (called “Add-ons” in the UI) are runtime helpers that process your conversations automatically. Learn how they work and how to use them effectively.
What are Assistants?
Assistants are background agents that:
- Run automatically every N messages (default: 5)
- Analyze recent conversation
- Generate summaries and updates
- Create snippets that enhance the chat context
- Stay cost-aware by only processing recent messages
Think of them as invisible helpers that keep conversations on track.
How Assistants Work
Processing Cadence
By default, assistants activate every 5 messages:
Message 1: You
Message 2: AI
Message 3: You
Message 4: AI
Message 5: You → Assistant processes here
You can configure this frequency per assistant.
What Assistants Do
When activated, an assistant:
- Reviews the last ~10 messages
- Analyzes patterns, topics, and intent
- Generates:
- Concise summary of discussion
- Updated snippet (context for next responses)
- Updates the character’s active context (the snippet is inserted into the chat context on each AI request)
Creating Custom Assistants
Plus users can create custom assistants.
Assistant Setup
- From the home screen, go to AI Chat Add-ons → Create (top-right)
- Configure:
-
Name: Assistant identifier
-
Description: Optional description shown in the UI
-
Context Target: Which target/scope to link the generated summary to
- Assistant: The assistant data will be scoped only to the current chat.
- Character: The assistant data will be linked to the character and will persist across chats for that character.
- User: The assistant data will be linked to the user and will persist across all chats and characters where this assitant is used.

Assistant Prompt
Define how the assistant behaves, for example:
Review the conversation and identify key learning points.
Generate a snippet that:
1. Lists concepts covered
2. Highlights areas of confusion
3. Suggests next topics to explore
Keep the snippet under 100 words.
Snippet Template
Define snippet structure. This should be very concise:
[Learning Progress:
Concepts: {{concepts}}
Mastery: {{mastery_level}}
Next: {{next_topic}}
Notes: {{notes}}]
