Worlds are Soulfire’s signature storytelling experience. This guide introduces you to your first World adventure.
What is a World?
A World is a persistent, interactive story where:
- Your actions shape the narrative
- The state remembers everything (characters, locations, inventory)
- Quests guide your journey
- Rules ensure story consistency
Think of it as a text-based RPG meets collaborative storytelling.
Starting Your First World
From the home screen:
- Click Play Worlds in the navigation
- Choose a Built-in World (available on all tiers)
- Click Start
- Read the opening scene
- Type your first action
The AI will respond with what happens next, updating the world state.
Taking Actions
Actions are freeform text describing what you want to do:
Examples:
- “Talk to the merchant about the missing supplies”
- “Search the old library for clues”
- “Draw my sword and prepare for combat”
- “Use the healing potion from my inventory”
The AI interprets your intent and narrates the outcome.
Actions are not reversible
Some other AI apps allow you to “re-roll” or “edit” the AI narrative, in case you don’t like the generated text. However, we feel that it’s better to let the story take you in unexpected directions and use your actions to guide it instead. Worlds are collaborative experiences between you and the AI. Try to go with the flow instead of always feeling the need to control it.
Understanding World State
The world tracks:
- Characters: NPCs, their stats, and relationships with you
- Locations: Places you’ve visited and discovered
- Inventory: Items you own, their properties, and effects
- Events: Things that have happened in the timeline
- Flags: Story markers (quest progress, decisions made)
You can ask the AI directly for information during your adventures.
Sometimes this tracking is not perfect. The AI still has a limited context window. We are always working to improve this experience. We welcome your feedback.
Quests
Quests give structure to your adventure:
- Main Quest: The central storyline
- Side Quests: Optional objectives for exploration
- Hidden Quests: Discovered through exploration
Quest objectives update as you progress, showing:
- ✅ Completed objectives
- ⏳ In-progress objectives
- 🔒 Locked objectives (prerequisites not met)
You can ask the AI directly about any current quests and milestones during your adventures.
Tips for World Exploration
Be Descriptive
Instead of: “Go north”
Try: “Carefully approach the northern gate, watching for guards”
Think Tactically
Consider consequences:
- Using resources wisely
- Building relationships before asking favors
- Exploring before committing to a path
Embrace Failure
Not all actions succeed. Failure can lead to interesting story branches:
- Failed stealth might lead to combat
- Failed persuasion might close one door but open another
