Understanding these core concepts will help you get the most out of Soulfire.

Characters

Characters are AI personas with distinct personalities, knowledge, and capabilities. Each character has:

  • Prompt: Defines personality, tone, and behavior
  • Initial message: Defines the initial message for each chat
  • Settings: Temperature, creativity parameters, and model selection

You can create private characters for personal use or share them with the community.

Assistants

Assistants (or “Add-ons”) are runtime helpers that process conversations in the background. They:

  • Run automatically every N messages (default: 5)
  • Maintain their own summary, like a memory bank
  • Generate concise snippets to be injected into the conversation context
  • Stay cost-aware by only looking at recent messages

Snippets are short text blocks that assistants inject into the conversation context, helping maintain continuity and focus.

Worlds

Worlds are persistent narrative spaces where:

  • State tracks entities (characters, places, items), relationships, and events
  • Turns represent player actions that are validated and committed
  • Quests guide the story and track progress
  • Rules ensure consistency and enforce constraints

Worlds can be private (for solo play) or shared (community experiences with moderation, coming in 2026).

Entities & Inventory

Within Worlds, entities represent:

  • Characters: NPCs with stats, relationships, and dialogue
  • Locations: Places you can visit and explore
  • Items: Objects you can collect, use, or trade
  • Events: Things that have happened in the world timeline

Your inventory persists throughout the story, and the world remembers your actions.

Rate Limits & Tiers

Usage is governed by your tier:

  • Free: Limited requests per day + access to characters and worlds
  • Basic: Moderate request limits per day, create/use assistants
  • Plus: Higher limits, create characters and worlds, more assistants

Limits reset daily and are designed to provide a good experience at every level. Free tier users are also subject to a global request limit per day
